National Doctoral Programme of Psychology - Introduction
The National Doctoral Programme on Psychology in a joint doctoral programme of the member universities of Psykonet, a university network in the field of psychology in Finland. The mission of the Doctoral Programme of Psychology is to bring together the top researches in the field of psychology to form a pool of supervisors for training young doctoral students into top level experts. In addition to providing specialized expertise in the field of psychology, the Doctoral Programme emphasizes a broad general scientific education. The education environment is constituted of research groups with international profiles and contacts. The National Doctoral Programme of Psychology is coordinated by University of Turku.

Publication of the year 2011 The Steering Group of the National Doctoral Programme of Psychology has awarded three doctoral students with the Publication of the Year Award. Silja Martikainen with the article ’Poor Sleep and Cardiovascular Function
in Children’ in Hypertension and Riikka Pyhälä-Neuvonen with the article ’Neurocognitive abilities in young adults with very low
birth weight’ in Neurology shared the first prize. Antti Kärnä's article ‘Going
to scale: A nonrandomized nationwide trial of the KiVa antibullying
program for grades 1–91’ in Journal of Consulting and
Clinical Psychology got the third prize.

Publication of the year 2010 (6.6.2011) The Steering Group of the National Doctoral Programme of Psychology has awarded PhD Nina Saine (University of Jyväskylä) for the publication of the year 2010. The award-winning article, Computer-assisted Remedial Reading Intervention for School Beginners at the Risk for Reading Diasbility, was published in Child Development.
Postgraduate positions by Academy of Finland for 2012-2015 (13.4.2011) The Academy of Finland has granted 9 postgraduate positions funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture to the National Doctoral Programme of Psychology. The application period will be in September and detailed instructions will be published in August.
Call for application: Publication of the Year 2010 (11.1.2011) The
purpose of the Publication of the Year award of National Doctoral Programme of
Psychology is to recognize each year the higl level peer-reviewed
international journal article including in the PhD thesis. The applicant of the
Publication of the Year award must be the first author. Doctoral Programme
searches now Publication of the Year 2010. Please send an article and publication
information to the coordinator of the programme by 31 Jan 2011. The Steering Group of the Doctoral
Programme chooses the winner who will be announced and rewarded in the spring symposium of the
doctoral programme in May.

Programme awarded Miriam Nokia form University of Jyväskylä for the article Hippocampal
Theta Activity is Selectively Associated With Contingency Detection but Not
Discrimination in Rabbit Discrimination-Reversal Eyeblink Conditioning
and Tuomo Häikiö from University of Turku for the article Development of the Letter Identity Span in Reading: Evidence from the
Eye Movement Moving Window Paradigm as the authors of the Publication of
the Year 2009.

Changes in charging of travel expences
(7.10.2010) Because of the new tax regulations, the Steering Group of the Doctoral Programme has decided 7th of October 2010 about the new way of charging the travel expenses from the Doctoral Programme. The detailed information is in: http://www.dopsy.fi/travel_expenses
Changing of a Name and a New Coordinator (8.7.2010) The Steering Group has decided about changing of a name on June. The new name of the Graduate School is National Doctoral Programme of Psychology.
From the beginning of July 2010 the coordinator of Doctoral Programme is M.A. Hanna-Leena Tikkanen. These web pages will be updated during July and August because of the changing of a name. Doctoral Programme wishes You all the very best summer!

GSPSY new postgraduate students
Sixteen postgaduate positions at the Graduate School of Psychology New application round starts from September 1 2009 to September 30 2009 at 3:45 pm.
The Graduate School of Psychology engourages students in the early stage of their studies
to apply for a post-graduate position. Students, currently holding a funded position may also
apply, if the maximum of four years is not exceeded.

Teppo Särkämö awarded as the author of The Publication of the Year 2008
Graduate school of psychology awarded in spring symposium on 7th May 2009 post graduate student Teppo Särkämö (University of Helsinki) as the author of The Publication of the Year 2008. The title of the article is: Music listening enhances cognitive recovery and mood after middle
cerebral artery stroke. The purpose of the new Publication of the year -award is to recognize each year the best peer-reviewed international journal article including in the PhD thesis. The applicant of the Publication of the Year award must be the first author.
A new four-year funding period (2010-2013)
The Academy of Finland has granted the Graduate School of Psychology a new four-year funding period (2010-2013) with a total of 11 PhD student positions. The positions are available from Janyary 1st, year 2010 and end latest December 31, year 2013. The new application round will start in September 1, 2009. The applications
must be delivered directly to coordinator or sent by mail with the attachements so that it is received on or before September 30, 2009 3:45 pm at the latest. The Steering Group of the Graduate School selects the new postgraduate students on November 2009. More information about application round at the end of August 2009.
